Twilight's Dawn

This group of stories was seriously a GREAT way to end a series I have truly enjoyed.  I am going to break up this review by story but please note it will have SPOILERS!

Winsol Gifts
Throughout the whole series you hear about the characters celebrating Winsol.  You infer that it is equivalent to Christmas but it is celebrated over 13 days.  This story finally gave us a look at what happens during Winsol.  There are parties to attend with the district and territory Queens and finally time alone with your family.  This story was so much fun to read because in it Daemon learns the hard way what happens when he turns his back on the gifts and tree long enough for his nephew Daemonar to sneak in and start ripping into presents.  I was laughing so hard while reading, especially when Saetan was explaining to his son about using illusion spells so the young children leave the presents alone.  Just like Christmas with my nephews!

Shades of Honor
Lucivar Yaslana is the ruler of Ebon Rih.  An Eyrien who is seen as a half-breed by other Eyriens.  His second-in-command, Falonar, is starting to get tired of serving someone he sees as being below him.  Falonar tries to turn the Eyriens against Lucivar and tries to take over as ruler of Ebon Rih.  But Falonar underestimates Lucivar's skills and the love his family has for him.

Family
Lady Sylvia, Queen of Halaway and former lover to Saetan SaDiablo, accepts an invitation to another territory so her oldest son can spend some time with a new friend.  The minute she arrives she feels an uneasiness about the place.  Her fear quickly escalates when she is attacked by a demon-dead who wears a darker jewel than she does.  Her only hope is to try and get her sons to run and to make the transition to demon-dead so she can tell Saetan what is going on.  The man, known as No Face, has been preying on small children and Lady Sylvia was an obstacle in her way as he tries to take her children.  With her help as demon-dead, and her sons memory of the No Face man, they are able to lure him with a trap.  He will not survive to attack another innocent child.

The High Lord's Daughter
I spent most of the time reading this with a tissue and tears in my eyes.  I knew from reading the synopsis that this particular story would result in the death of two very beloved characters, Jaenelle and Saetan.  The story begins with Daemon passed out from a drinking binge because he has just finished a year of mourning his wife, Jaenelle.  Many years have passed and Jaenelle was in her nineties when she passed.  Fast forward seventeen years and Saetan has begun to slip away and become a whisper in the darkness.  After he passes, Daemon finds himself attracted to Surreal, an honorary cousin he has known since she was twelve.  To make a long story short, they decide to marry and have a baby.  A little girl so like Jaenelle that their hearts begin to heal.  It was a great end to the story and I loved it!

Now off I go to a conference.  Here's to hoping I get plenty of reading time in.
