Can the vampires come out to play?

I started this blog as a way for me to really just vent my opinion about the books I have read.  I didn't want it to be a typical book blog where all I do is offer a summary of the book.  I figure if anyone wants that they can go to Amazon or Barnes and Noble and read up on what the story is about.  Instead I wanted a blog where I talked about my experiences with the books; how I felt while reading them, what I thought of the characters, etc.  Reading has always been a passion of mine.  But alas something else that has recently become a passion of mine has taken over my reading time ;)  I would like to occasionally showcase that passion on here.  Won't happen all the time, but if I have a brilliant "I love this" moment then I will.  What am I currently obsessed, er I mean passionate about lately?  NAILS!!!!!  Over the past few months I have become obsessed with nail polish and nail art.  I'm not very good and spend most time on YouTube getting ideas for manicures.  My nails are small and while I like painting my nails, I don't keep a strict regiment for keeping my cuticles nice and healthy and non-dry and crack-free.  Takes too much time ;)

With all that being said, I would like to share the manicure I did last night.  Tonight my friends and I are going to go see Breaking Dawn Part 2.  I prefer waiting for the crowds to die down and most times I sit in the 21+ section of the theater so I don't have to deal with screaming girls.  Anyways, here is the mani I came up with:

I took this in my bathroom and with my cell phone because I have no fancy lighting and no expensive camera that gets awesome pictures.  Maybe next time I will try taking the picture with my Nikon point and shoot camera.  Sorry for the messiness, I was too lazy to try cleaning up excess polish off my skin.

I used OPI Vampsterdam as the base color.  It is a really pretty purple and is a little bit shimmery.  I then used China Glaze Liquid Leather to do black tips.  With my dotting tool I made "drips" to represent dripping blood.  My accent finger is The Many Shades of Mr. Grey by Dollish Polish.  What do you think?

City of Bones

City of Bones is book one in the Mortal Instruments series.  Another book out of the Trader Joe's bag from my super awesome friend.  I have seen this book every time I walked down the book aisle at Target and always wondered how it was.  But I never picked it up.  Now I am so glad my friend had this book because I thought it was a really good book and I cannot wait to move on to book two.  I was even more excited about this series when I saw a trailer for the movie and saw some of my favorite actors are going to be in it ;) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1538403/).  Namely a Mr. Aidan Turner and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.  Can we say YUM?!  My two favorite Irishmen.

Okay, enough drooling, now on to book talk!  With the world of vampires, werewolves, witches, etc. in full swing right now, I thought the plot and story behind this book was able to stand on its own.  The concept of Shadowhunters brings a whole new twist to the genre or paranormal bootie kicking.  As you are reading the story you think, Shadowhunters, big deal.  They are just demon hunters like Buffy is a vampire hunter.  So much more than that!  The story goes that Shadowhunters were decendents from angels and set on Earth to take care of all the bad Downworlders.  They have wicked cool fighting abilities and use runes for spells and healing.  They can even make themselves "invisible" to the human eye.  They literally can live in the shadows and take out their prey.  Then enter Clary, the heroine of our story.  And guess what?  She can see the shadowhunters!  Clary reminder me a lot of another literary character I know I have come across but I cannot put my finger on it.  Maybe a Bella in Twilight kind of girl.  Poor Clary is thrown into the shadowhunter world when her mom is kidnapped by demons.  The story was a quick read and I liked how the two main characters (Clary and Jace) really panned out.  Clary gained more confidence by the end of the story thanks to Jace, and Jace learned not to be some cocky guy who thinks he can get anything he wants ;)  Based off of how this book ends, I am really curious moving forward how the plot will unravel.

50 Shades Freed

Normally when I am reading a series and come to the last book it is a bittersweet feeling and I do not want the series to end. By the time I got to this book, the third and final book in the 50 shades series, I could not wait for it to be over!  The first book was okay, I really liked the third book, this one I couldn't wait for it to be over.  It's not that it was a bad story.  In fact I really like the plot of the whole thing and thought it was a great story.  But after three books of "Laters, baby", "inner goddess" and "murmuring", let's just say I was getting annoyed.  And it seemed like this book had even more sex scenes than the other books.  I started getting annoyed with those too and found myself skimming over those scenes instead of reading them.  I like my romance books full of plot and only a FEW sex scenes, not one on every other page!  I was too much to the extreme and annoyed me.  The author had a great story but if she continues to write books she really needs to work on her delivery.  I can't believe these made it to publishing with all the repetition and elementary writing.  Okay I know, I am probably being a bit harsh.  But for someone like me who is an avid reader, it made it difficult to get through the books because I kept getting hung up on those repetitive lines and statements.  Every time I would read one my mind would think, "Again!  Seriously!"

Alright enough ranting, now let me talk about the content of the book.  In this book there is a lot of "flashbacks" in a sense.  For example, (SPOILER ALERT) while Ana is on her honeymoon she "thinks back" to the wedding and wedding night.  Instead of us reading about it as it happened we have to read about her remembering it.  This happened a lot in the book.  Another thing about this book is it is completely predictable.  Especially the ending.  I knew what would happen after a few chapters into the book!  With all that being said, I really liked Christian Grey and can see why women everywhere are saying they want to find their Christian Grey.

Now on to something a little juvenile.  I've had my share of sex scenes, for a while anyways.
